If there’s one thing that frustrates the veterinarian and pet owner alike, it’s that our beloved animals cannot tell us what is bothering them or that they are in pain. This, says our Decatur veterinarian, is why Fairview Hospital for Animals has invested in the most modern digital pet radiology and pet ultrasound equipment around, important tools for fast and competent diagnosis and subsequent treatment of your pets.
Our veterinarian in Decatur is an expert in using this modern technology to diagnose what may be wrong with your companion animal. Interpretation of the results is the key and that’s where our highly skilled vet and technicians afford you the best possible results. Our digital x-ray machine is the latest in x-ray technology and it gives the sharpest images available. Its diagnostic capability includes detecting certain illnesses and fractures. It is a useful tool for following the healing progress of a fracture and can also be used in for your pet’s dental treatments.
We are particularly skilled in getting excellent results quickly and smoothly with superb image quality which ensures accurate diagnoses. In addition, pet images are reviewed by us within minutes so you don’t have to wait unnecessarily.
For some x-rays, your pet will need to be absolutely still, such as orthopedic radiographs, which will then require sedation or anesthesia. Your pet will most likely not need to be under anesthesia for long and during the procedure he will be carefully monitored for heart rate, respiration, and blood pressure.
We also provide our patients with the most up-to-date ultrasound technology. Veterinary ultrasound is another diagnostic tool for detecting problems and pain that our pets cannot tell us about. Our staff is expert in the use of ultrasound equipment and our vets highly skilled in interpreting the results. The key advantage of ultrasound is that it is an easy, painless, and non-invasive procedure that can safely be used to examine abdominal issues in the bladder, stomach and pregnancies. It is especially favored for use in the latter because there are no potentially harmful x-rays to damage the fetus. We find it is especially useful in treating pets that are scared, in pain or traumatized.
In order to get the best results, your pet’s abdominal hair will need to be shaved so the ultrasound can penetrate into the animal. In addition, your pet should fast before the procedure to get the best possible results. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and the results are immediate.
Just as with digital x-rays, sometimes sedation or anesthesia may be needed if the pet is particularly anxious.
Dr. Shelly Stevens and Dr. Robert Groesch, as well as the entire staff of our Decatur veterinary hospital, are committed to your pet's continuing health and well-being. Our hospital is known for excellence in pet care, both in compassionate care and cutting edge veterinary medicine.

Services & More
I visit Fairview Animal Hospital at least once a week for a few of my fur-babies to receive laser therapy and the ENTIRE staff always shows genuine concern for my babies as well as me. They are always completely honest in the care they believe my pets need and only suggest treatments that they firmly believe would help my babies comfort. I have six dogs and two cats who all have their own issues and they know them all by name, know what their problems are and cater to their individual needs. The best part of this staff, is that every single one of my babies thoroughly enjoys their visits which is most important to me.
